Dear Friends of Brookline-Quezalguaque Sister City Project,
Another year has gone by with many exciting things taking place in Quezalguaque! We thank you for your past donations and remind you that a tax-deductible contribution before the end of the year will help us continue our support of this small town in Nicaragua.
- Our Clean Water Initiative continues with solar panels installed in Puntarena Norte earlier this year and currently being installed in El Pozo. This means 6 of the 8 water delivery stations (MABEs) have solar panels, reducing the cost of clean water delivered to the communities. Technical training is also given to the men and women who manage these stations.
- The Health Center and Health Posts are thriving, treating numerous adults and children every day. This year, a Blood Chemistry Analyzer and an Ultrasound Machine were requested because the ones they had were no longer functioning. We were able to send funds to buy these machines, even though the cost was significantly higher in Nicaragua than in the U.S.
- The Sanitation and Hygiene project to install new toilets and washbasins in schools continues. We have paid for the new installations in 3 schools (others having been done by our Spanish partner, ECODES). There are currently 5 schools that still need new installations.
- Scholarships for higher education are given to students from Quezalguaque vetted by FNE International, a non-profit that works in Nicaragua. Currently, 5 students receive $500 per year to pay for books, materials, and transportation.
These are only a few of our projects, ones that take a considerable amount of money to carry out. We ask that you continue to be a part of our efforts to respond to the needs of the people of Quezalguaque. Clean water, healthcare, sanitary conditions, and higher education help lift people up and help them live the best life possible. ¡Adelante!
Muchísimas gracias,
Carol Pineiro
